City of Turku

Turku Region Public Transport Committee is responsible of public transport in Turku and several neighboring cities, which is mainly operated by private companies. With INIT, Turku decided for the perfect partner to implement an integrated ITS system. After only two years of preparation and set-up, Finland’s oldest but most modern metropolitan area went into operation with a revolutionary ID-based ticketing system in 2016.

The next step of the project was the full utilization of INIT’s Intermodal Transport Control System (ITCS) to prepare and secure the city of Turku far into the future.

In 2020, another milestone was reached: Contactless payments based on the cEMV standard for bank and credit cards is now available across the public transportation network in Turku – a “first” in Finland. Once again, Turku chose to work with INIT for this ambitious project.
