More public transport providers across the UK are expected to embrace innovative technology as the number of electric fleets on our roads continues to rise. The ability to predict energy consumption and battery charge & range, alongside live feedback for the drivers on their driving style, encourages and improves energy efficiency. This cost (and indeed environment) saver, together with automated passenger counting, which documents ridership, are technologies which are meeting growing demand in this sector and adding value to transport customers worldwide. They are just some of the solutions created by leaders in IT systems for public transport, INIT.
The e-Mobility experts offer a turnkey platform for future growth that integrates all operational processes including the deployment and management of electric vehicles, and on and off vehicle smart-ticketing. The initiatives will be showcased at the Coach & Bus UK exhibition at the NEC, Birmingham on 2-3 October 2019. Jens Mullak, INIT UK’s Managing Director, said: “Providers of public transport are under increasing pressure to deliver services which support the national agenda to reduce toxic fumes in our cities, meet the needs of the local authorities and deliver a safe and convenient service for customers.
“Our R&D team is already working on tomorrow’s challenges and we are constantly looking at ways of developing solutions and services which respond to these changing requirements, by creating innovative technology which integrates all operational processes for the deployment of electric vehicles. INIT is over 35 years old; this provides transport organisations with stability and also vast experience; and these experts will be at Coach & Bus UK to hear about operational problem areas whilst showcasing how we can solve these problems."
Earlier in the year, The Department for Transport (DfT) and the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) pledged to invest £48m into new vehicles and infrastructure in a drive to help the Government meet the aims of its Clean Air Strategy and Road to Zero. Seven towns and cities (Manchester; Nottingham; Birmingham; Cardiff; London and Brighton and Hove) have local authorities working with transport companies to bolster the low-carbon public transport offerings in these regions.
Jens Mullak added: “Key cities in the UK are leading the change in this sector and we imagine others will follow. We offer help with route planning and dispatching, range prediction, management and monitoring of the charging processes, and analysis and reports which is key in helping run a large fleet of electric vehicles effectively. We can also help transport organisations to monitor the state of charge of electric vehicles and receive warnings when the charging level has become critical. The driver also receives real-time feedback to harness an energy-saving driving style.
