INIT is building a new headquarters in the US

Continual growth with room for future expansion

Currently, INIT is located at three sites in Chesapeake, Virginia, but this will change in the coming year. The new facility in Chesapeake, Virginia is targeted for completion by March 2017. The new building will house INIT’s staff including their engineering, development, sales, customer support, information technology, project management and administrative departments as well as a warehouse and their two manufacturing firms.

About the INIT subsidiary in the US

Since 1999, INIT has been officially represented in the US by its subsidiary INIT Inc. INIT Inc. supports the North American market from their headquarters in Chesapeake. In order to meet the “Buy America” requirements, INIT runs two production operations there. TQA Total Quality Assembly LLC. was established in 2006 in partnership with a supplier to manufacture cables.

In 2012, INIT founded SQM Superior Quality Manufacturing LLC., which assembles various devices from the INIT product family and also acts as a contract manufacturer for INIT GmbH in Karlsruhe. Since the establishment of SQM, US customers have benefited from faster delivery and shorter repair times.

Together, these three INIT companies currently employ a total of approximately 80 people. "We expect that even in the long term the new site will provide enough space for our growing business activities", said CEO Roland Staib, who has already made four moves to larger spaces over the last 16 years.

"Green" innovations change public transportation

Just one year after INIT Inc. won its first contract in Akron, Ohio in 1999, the transportation companies in Albany, Champaign-Urbana, Rock Island, Lafayette, Portland, Denver, St. Louis and Montreal became new INIT customers. In the following years, many transportation companies followed suit partnering with INIT to equip their fleets and their control centres with hardware and software.

INIT’s continued customer growth in the North American transportation market is a positive sign for the company. With more than 35 North American customers and projects – and a number of growing prospects – the expansion and build out of a new facility was highly warranted.

Investment in long-term growth

INIT’s new headquarters will comprise floor space measuring over 6,500 square metres, and more than 80 employees will work there in 2017. "By consolidating all of these departments in one building, we will increase the efficiency of our workflows and reduce operating and maintenance costs. The new location will also provide us with room for expansion in the future," explained Dr Gottfried Greschner, CEO of init AG.
