Real-time Passenger Information app now available for Android devices

DEPARTURESlive is an app that allows passengers to get real-time information on their stops right from the smartphone. Once only an application for iOS-based devices, DEPARTURESlive is now also applicable for Android. The public transport companies Verkehrsbetriebe Karlsruhe (VBK) and Albtal Verkehrsgesellschaft (AVG) already offer their customers this solution. Thus, passengers in Karlsruhe have the opportunity to download the app for free. This way, they can get current departure information of the trams in and around Karlsruhe on their smartphone in real time.

Augmented Reality

By few touches, lists of all stops, departures, a map, and an Augmented Reality function are available. Thus, the smartphone becomes a handy real-time source of information. The Augmented Reality feature is the highlight of DEPARTURESlive. It enriches the view through the camera with contextual information and enables users to identify the stops closest to them as well as the distance to each of the next stops. Also included is a pedestrian navigation feature that takes passengers directly to the stop with just one additional touch.

Technical requirements

Basically, all INIT clients can utilise the app DEPARTURESlive without complications. The prerequisites for this are a licence for both ITCS and ONLINEinfo which are not older than two years, and sufficient performance on the ITCS and DMZ servers. Additionally, data have to be available in a manner that is applicable for passenger information and maps. The app is designed with the well-known INIT green. However, the layout can optionally be adapted to the client’s corporate design.

 

The quicker the better

We are excited to offer a special deal to customers who are ready to go: The first five transportation companies to respond, will receive the app free of license costs only paying for implementation. This is on a first come – first served basis (in the sequence of order income).
