OCTA introduces mobile ticketing

With INIT on the road to a more attractive public transport

INIT received an order from the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) for the implementation of electronic fare readers and a back-office ticketing system.

Ambitious goals

The fare system will improve the customer experience by providing a convenient option for riders, simplifying the use of public transport, and allowing for future regional fare integration. The partnership with INIT Inc. based in Chesapeake, Virginia/USA, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the INIT Group, ensures these goals can become reality.

Hardware modernisation and software update

The recent integration of a moovel mobile ticketing app necessitated the use of corresponding fare readers across the agency’s 556 fixed-route vehicle fleet. INIT supplies the PROXmobile3 passenger terminals for this purpose. These are fully capable of accepting open payments – contactless credit cards, debit EMV, and near-field communication devices.

In addition, INIT will implement a backend multi-client capable fare management and clearing system to process mobile tickets on-board the OCTA fleet, monitor field devices, configuration and reporting. The modular system structure of MOBILEvario allows OCTA to expand or extend at any time to meet the needs of new technology or new functionalities. The terminals and the back-office system have an open-system architecture as well as application programming interfaces (API).
