Next generations of COPILOTpc and EVENDpc

Future-proof on-board computers for public transport

Modern ITS applications place high demands on the performance, security, and connectivity of on-board computers. At the same time, large volumes of data must be transferred reliably and quickly between vehicles, control centers, and other systems. INIT’s new generation of on-board computers for public transport is designed to meet these requirements. It combines powerful hardware with a modern software architecture to provide transport companies with a flexible, long-lasting, and secure foundation for their vehicle IT systems.

Flexible and Future-Ready: the PC-based COPILOTpc on-board computer

COPILOTpc is a powerful, PC-based on-board computer for connected bus and vehicle systems. It simplifies vehicle architecture by eliminating the need for additional components for various applications. This reduces hardware requirements and provides a compact foundation for a wide range of ITS applications.

The robust Linux operating system is designed for use in vehicles with long service lives. It supports standard software and enables the integration of various applications, including vehicle health monitoring and e-mobility.

For a flexible software architecture, COPILOTpc supports OCI containers through Podman. Applications can run in isolated runtime environments, allowing individual software components to be updated independently and new applications to be added without affecting other system functions. Standardized interfaces also simplify integration with existing and future vehicle and IT systems.

The hardened system architecture and separation of system functions contribute to high levels of cybersecurity and help reduce the potential attack surface.

Key COPILOTpc features

  • All conventional on-board computer functions, including vehicle location and schedule adherence
  • OCI container support through Podman for isolated runtime environments
  • Hardened architecture and reduced attack surface for enhanced cybersecurity
  • Integrated communications and passenger announcement modules, including text-to-speech and speech recognition
  • Support for data and voice communications, including VoIP
  • Support for standard software

High Performance for operations control and ticketing: the EVENDpc combined on-board computer and ticket printer

EVENDpc combines an on-board computer and ticket printer in a single device, supporting both operations control and ticketing applications. A more powerful processor, increased RAM, and expanded data storage provide the computing power required for demanding applications directly on board the vehicle.

In addition to standard on-board computer functions, EVENDpc supports applications such as navigation, text-to-speech, VoIP, VDV-KA, web browsing, and PDF viewing.

For electronic ticketing, the combined on-board computer features a hybrid reader for contactless cards and smart cards. It supports EMV credit and debit card payments, open payment applications based on the EMV Mass Transit Transaction Model, and account-based ticketing. This makes EVENDpc suitable for a wide range of modern ticketing and payment systems.

Key EVENDpc features

  • Combined on-board computer and ticket printer in a single device
  • Support for paper tickets, smart cards, and barcode tickets
  • Cashless payments and support for modern electronic ticketing solutions
  • All conventional on-board computer functions, including vehicle location and schedule adherence
  • Microsoft Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC
  • Integrated communications and passenger announcement modules, including text-to-speech
  • Support for data and voice communications, including VoIP
  • Optional EMV Level 1 and Level 2, VDV-KA, ITSO, and Calypso

Long-lasting and low-maintenance: the COPILOTobu on-board computer with integrated audio amplifier

COPILOTobu is a compact on-board computer for buses with an integrated audio amplifier and communications gateway. Its numerous interfaces and ITxPT compatibility make it easy to integrate into a wide range of vehicle and IT systems.

COPILOTobu also uses OCI container technology through Podman. Applications run in isolated environments and can be updated and extended independently, making it easier to adapt vehicle software to changing requirements.

The integrated audio amplifier enables passenger announcements without the need for a separate amplifier. This reduces the number of additional components required in the vehicle. The fanless design ensures low power consumption and minimizes maintenance requirements by eliminating moving parts.

The robust Linux operating system provides a stable, updatable platform for long-term use in vehicles. The hardened architecture also contributes to enhanced cybersecurity.

COPILOTobu is designed for continuous operation in demanding vehicle environments, combining on-board computer functions, communications, and audio in a compact system.

Key COPILOTobu features

  • All conventional on-board computer functions, including vehicle location and schedule adherence
  • Integrated audio amplifier for passenger announcements
  • Integrated communications and passenger announcement modules, including text-to-speech and speech recognition
  • OCI container support through Podman for isolated runtime environments
  • Hardened architecture and reduced attack surface for enhanced cybersecurity
  • Support for standard software
  • Numerous interfaces and ITxPT compatibility
