German public transport provider Verkehrsgesellschaft Hameln-Pyrmont mbH (VHP) has chosen an integrated solution from INIT for its operations control and ticketing. The company is equipping 145 buses with new on-board computers and implementing INIT's new Intermodal Transport Control System MOBILE-ITCS nextGen. In addition, the fare management and clearing system MOBILEvario will serve as their back-office sales system and enable the introduction of new distribution channels such as the issuing of e-tickets.

Installation of new on-board hardware

By the end of the year, the bus fleet in Hameln and Bad Pyrmont will be equipped with new hardware. The PC-based ticket printers and on-board computers, EVENDpc3 will be installed, which enable contactless payments as well as the printing and reading of forgery-proof tickets with 2D barcodes. Vehicles will also be equipped with MONAtsp transmitters for traffic signal priority messages that allow buses to request priority over car traffic at traffic lights. This will shorten block times and enable buses to operate more punctually. INIT products will also improve acoustic passenger information. PAmobile2, high-end vehicle amplifiers will be installed in buses to provide passengers with improved audio information.

Introduction of the next generation ITCS

Monitoring of operations, dispatching and passenger information will be provided by INIT's new Intermodal Transport Control System MOBILE-ITCS nextGen.  Network and timetable data are taken over from VHP’s planning system via the VDV 452 interface. The passenger information system controls existing DFI displays and there is also a connection to the Bremen/Lower Saxony cross-region passenger information platform via VDV 453/454. Data communication with vehicles takes place via the mobile network, voice radio connection via VoIP. The package is supplemented by the MOBILEstatistics analysis and statistics system for comprehensive reporting.

Setup of a new sales back-office system

Tickets are sold in the vehicle and in 20 ticket offices which are also equipped with EVENDpc3 ticket printers. The back-office system handles a variety of tariffs: In addition to the domestic tariff, the Lower Saxony tariff, Westphalia tariff and VSN tariff (Verkehrsverbund Süd-Niedersachsen) also apply. Guest cards in the Bad Pyrmont spa town can also be used as tickets. In addition, the system is connected via an interface to the cash deposit machine for cash accounting.

The entire system will be installed and put into operation by December 2022. Extensive maintenance and services are also part of the project, which is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport.

Managing Director of Verkehrsgesellschaft Hameln-Pyrmont mbH, Arne Behrens has high expectations for the project and sees his company as being well positioned thanks to the partnership with the leading provider of integrated telematics solutions:

We are driving forward the digitalization of VHP and look forward to future cooperation. We have come to recognise INIT as an efficient partner who will provide us with the best possible support for our plans.
