INIT has received ‘Visa Ready for Transit’ certification for their Account-Based Ticketing (ABT) back-office system MOBILEvario. The certification from Visa, the world leader in digital payments, proves to public transport companies around the world that INIT’s solution delivers the passenger experience that Visa have defined in their Mobility and Transport Transaction (MTT) model. It underlines the extensive experience INIT has in open payment solutions with many successful projects worldwide.

By giving their certification, Visa confirms that MOBILEvario meets their payment framework standards for easy, fast and secure contactless payments (EMV) for passengers with contactless credit / debit cards, mobile wallets in smartphones or wearables. Cashless, contactless payments have become increasingly popular – they speed up boarding times and therefore improve punctuality. In addition, expensive cash handling costs are reduced.

In order to receive the certification, INIT had to submit extensive information about the fare management and clearing system MOBILEvario and provide a system demo of an example project as reference. INIT chose their successful contactless payments project in Turku, Finland as example that the system could work in accordance with all of Visa’s specifications. The certification scope included MTT compliant transaction formats, deny list management, payment aggregation and automatic debt recovery – the major requirements for a comfortable and secure passenger experience. INIT and MOBILEvario passed the tests without requiring changes or adaptations of the system to achieve the certification.

MOBILEvario is INIT’s multi-client fare collection back-office system, which offers transport companies complete control over their sales processes. To set the bar for passenger experience even higher, MOBILEvario supports all kinds of ticketing modes: contactless transport payments with credit/debit cards, public transport companies’ own cards, barcodes and mobile tickets but also cash payments and paper tickets. Its open architecture facilitates the integration of third-party systems, additional sales channels, clients and different ticket media based on open programming interfaces (APIs) and web services.

We are very pleased that the world leader in digital payments has confirmed the reliability, adaptability and security of MOBILEvario in terms of contactless payments and smart ticketing. Being certified ‘Visa Ready for Transit’ gives peace of mind to our customers and interested parties in the world of public transport and is tangible proof of INIT’s expertise in open payment solutions.
