Operations control in the combined bus, tram/train sector

As part of its rail initiative, INIT has continuously expanded its range of services for operations control in the combined bus and tram/train sector.

The implemented enhancements now include rail-specific functionalities in MOBILE-ITCS, rail-compatible hardware and the development of an interface with a leading rail ITCS. INIT is currently demonstrating its expertise in operations control in the combined tram/train and bus sector for various projects, including in Strasbourg, Karlsruhe and Salzburg.

Expansion of railway-specific functionality in MOBILE-ITCS

1. Operations control in the tunnel

MOBILE-ITCS enables the control center to seamlessly control operations and ensure reliable passenger information even when trams pass through tunnels.

2. Passenger information in "Portion working"

Passengers can now be provided with reliable departure information when trains are combined and split in passenger service. Learn more here >>

3. Improved terminal stop management

New measures in MOBILE-ITCS prevent terminal stops from becoming overcrowded when several trains arrive.

4. Single-track sections

If parts of the tram network are single-track, access can be controlled in MOBILE-ITCS with appropriate measures.

5. Measures to prevent trams from entering disrupted areas

To prevent further trips and lines being affected in the event of disruptions and to prevent traffic obstructions from spreading, the entry of trams into disrupted areas can be blocked in MOBILE-ITCS.

1. COPILOTrail: PC-based on-board computer for the rail sector

With COPILOTrail, INIT offers a PC-based on-board computer for specific use in rail, whose performance meets the high requirements of modern ITS applications. The galvanic isolation of the interfaces ensures electromagnetic compatibility. COPILOTrail undergoes all the certifications required for the rail sector.

2. Communication gateway for rail and buses

INIT has also launched COMgateway, a central communication gateway for rail and buses that provides data communication between the wired Ethernet network (LAN) in the vehicle and Wi-Fi or WWAN (Wireless Wide Area Network, e.g. LTE). COMgateway enables the exchange of vast amounts of data between the vehicles and the operations control system and is certified for the rail sector.

Interface to rail ITCS

The DatNet control system from ETC Solutions GmbH is regarded as the industry standard in the private rail sector. INIT is a globally recognized expert for operations control in the bus and tram sector. INIT has developed an interface between the two systems for the Karlsruhe transport company Albtal-Verkehrsgesellschaft, enabling the long-awaited operational integration of the trams and trains of the Karlsruhe model (tram-train system) after technical and legal integration.
