Karlsruhe – 13 January 2026

The shortage of skilled staff poses major challenges for transport companies. Fortunately, suitable IT solutions can help to close this gap. INIT, the world's leading provider of integrated planning, dispatching, telematics, and ticketing systems, will be demonstrating what the right support can look like at IT-TRANS in Karlsruhe. From March 3 to 5, 2026, visitors can find out more at the INIT Group's booth in Hall 1, Booth F5.

Closing experience gaps and reducing employee workload

The turning point of all the solutions shown is a shift away from the prerequisite that employees must have many years of operational and experiential knowledge in order to perform their demanding tasks well. Instead, INIT solutions focus on providing (new) employees with exactly the support and situation-specific information they need to make decisions quickly and confidently. In addition, they relieve the burden on scarce personnel by automating routine tasks and processes.

Attracting and retaining new drivers

Attracting and retaining new drivers is becoming increasingly difficult. Desirable working conditions are essential for this. Newly designed duty roster concepts that offer employees greater control over their working hours ensure higher satisfaction. Motivation increases, while staff turnover and sick leave decrease.

In the MOBILE-PERDIS personnel assignment system, drivers can easily enter their prefered shifts via PC or smartphone. Shifts are then assigned based on the company's rules and regulations, with the system ensuring a high and fair fulfillment rate. At the same time, MOBILE-PERDIS makes sure all operational and legal requirements are met. A duty pool lets drivers handle short-notice requests or swap shifts independently, making it easier to adapt to last-minute changes without disrupting operations.

Get up to speed quickly in the driver's seat

Transport companies are increasingly having to rely on inexperienced drivers. INIT's on-board computers help beginners get up to speed quickly in their new roles. Smartphone-like operation makes the on-board computer easy and intuitive to use, significantly shortening training time. The user interface is available in multiple languages to help overcome language barriers. An AI-based assistant translates text messages from the control center into the driver’s native language, while turn-by-turn navigation provides reliable guidance, especially on unfamiliar routes.

Driver relief through account-based ticketing

Selling tickets is an additional burden for drivers, which is even more difficult to cope with if they have limited language skills. Account-based ticketing can reduce this burden as passengers check in and out themselves at a validator. They simply use their bank or credit card, their smartphone, or even a (virtual) customer card. The system automatically calculates the best price using fare capping. This reduces the need for interaction between drivers and passengers, while passengers benefit from always getting the lowest fare without having to think about ticket options. INIT also provides a convenient platform solution for account-based ticketing as a service.

Automation and assistance support in the event of a disruption

Automation is an effective approach when it comes to addressing staff shortages. This also applies to passenger information—a time-consuming task for the control center. With RESPONSEassist, the INIT system for automated incident management and multi-channel information, passenger information can be generated automatically and distributed to all channels with a single click. This allows control center staff to concentrate on their core task: resolving incidents. RESPONSEassist also supports this task by following the agency’s standard operating procedures, helping ensure actions are handled consistently, correctly, and with minimal effort from staff.

IT hosting: peace of mind

It is becoming increasingly difficult for transport companies to build up all the specialist knowledge that is essential for operating their complex IT system landscape reliably and in compliance with ever-increasing security requirements. A reliable hosting concept from technology partner INIT allows all requirements for legal compliance, reliability, high availability, and cybersecurity to be met. Carefully selected data centers guarantee secure operation. Intelligent system concepts ensure minimal downtime while a comprehensive maintenance concept ensures that the system is always up to date, also in terms of cyber security. INIT thus gives transport companies the freedom to concentrate on their core tasks, while their operational IT systems are in the best of hands.

Reducing the additional workload in the depot caused by e-buses

Electric buses pose new challenges for depot operations: charging takes significantly longer than refueling and must therefore be intelligently controlled to ensure cost efficiency. This also means that vehicles can no longer be easily reallocated. These are challenging tasks, even for experienced team members.

The MOBILE-DMS depot management system fully integrates the specific e-mobility requirements and all workflows. For each individual vehicle, the current state of charge is checked, a suitable block is determined, the range required for the next trip is calculated, and a suitable parking slot is assigned. An interface to the charge management system also ensures that a suitable replacement bus is assigned in the event of unexpected events during the charging process.
