Access to accurate key performance indicators (KPIs) is an important success factor for public transport operators. KPIs give you insight into the efficiency and profitability of your company, and allow you to identify weaknesses and potential improvements. INIT’s powerful analysis tool captures this valuable data – and by automatically feeding back statistics into the planning tool, it provides a closed control circuit and a solid basis for management decisions.

What INIT can help you to achieve

Increase efficiency

  • Provide a solid basis for management decisions
  • Deliver Business Intelligence
  • Automated feedback for improved planning
  • Save fuel and optimize maintenance

Increase service quality

  • Monitor the fleet’s performance
  • Adjust service offers based on real-time information on passenger loads
  • Increase customer satisfaction by planning in accordance with the actual demand
  • Increase punctuality by feeding statistical data back into the planning process
  • Supports crowd management through a patented process

Precise passenger counting – precise data

INIT’s Automatic Passenger Counting technology delivers credible data that provides an excellent basis for making service planning and scheduling decisions. In addition, INIT has supported RTD with outstanding customer support over the years.

The comprehensive suite of INIT tools for analyzing and optimizing operations supports the challenging task of balancing the economic goals of a public transport provider with a maximum of service quality. Weak point analyses help you to streamline operations, but also to enhance your service quality by adapting your schedules to real-life conditions. The comparison between service offers and the actual passenger load helps to optimize the use of resources or opens up the chance to increase customer satisfaction by reacting to overcrowded vehicles. Statistical data also help to optimize schedules and blocks while achieving further cost savings through vehicle health management and energy efficient driving.

Informed decisions

Today’s public transport is all about customer experience. The number one requirement is providing a high quality service. Hence, it is obvious that public transport managers want to be informed about the performance within their network. Already during the operational day, MOBILEstatistics provides an instant overview of key performance indicators and an overall quality level. It even alerts them if a defined parameter falls under a critical threshold.

Analyses and reporting

MOBILEstatistics, the analysis and evaluation tool, provides deep insight into the quality of operations. It gives a solid information basis to further increase the efficiency of operations. Precise data on punctuality, unexpected delays, time spent at stops and passenger counts help identify potential for improvements and weak points. As a result, schedules, routes and the deployment of vehicles and staff can be optimized. The data can also be used for the distribution of revenues. The tool provides rich functionalities, high-quality data, and flexible reporting and analyses.

Feedback into planning

The software module MOBILEloop automatically feeds back statistical data like passenger counts or delays into the planning system MOBILE-PLAN. Hence, these data immediately become visible for planners and allow them to recognize systematic deviations between scheduled data and the current situation. Based on these findings, new schedules, blocks and duties can be created with optimization runs. This results in realistic schedules and therefore higher punctuality while keeping vehicle deployment low.

Automatic Passenger Counting

The Automatic Passenger Counting system MOBILE-APC uses the most accurate sensor currently available on the market – the IRMA sensor. The passenger counts are matched with the schedule data and can be evaluated in MOBILEstatistics to identify where service and demand don’t match or to produce reports for revenue distribution. In addition, information on the passenger counts can be transferred in real time to inform dispatcher and passengers. For example, this information is used to guide passengers on the platform to less crowded sections within incoming trains.

Ecological and economical fleet management

Modern vehicles constantly monitor the status of their technical systems. Logs and error reports are useful for troubleshooting in the workshop. Now pertinent vehicle information is collected via the CAN bus (Controller Area Network) and merged by MOBILE-ECO². Subsequently, they are displayed in one single system to monitor the vehicle condition and optimize maintenance. In addition, the factors influencing the fuel consumption of the vehicle are tracked. They are directly presented to the drivers via a panel or their data terminal to increase the awareness of inappropriate behavior and to serve a more reluctant driving style. In addition, the data can be used to adapt driver training or to reward drivers for fuel savings. As savings from five to eight percent can be achieved relatively easily, the monitoring of the driving pattern is an important factor to increase the efficiency of public transport.
